چکیده

Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is an uncommon disease that mainly affects subjects younger than 40 years of age, patients with thrombophilia, and women who are pregnant or receiving hormonal contraceptives. The annual incidence is estimated to be 3 to 4 cases per million, which increases to 12 cases per 100 000 deliveries during the peripartum period. Mortality and recurrence rates are lower when compared with arterial stroke, with an estimated annual risk of new venous thrombotic events after a first CVT at 2% to 3% for a new CVT and 3% to 8% for extracranial events. However, because of a paucity of prospective studies with long-term follow-up, recurrence of venous thrombosis (VT) after CVT is still largely unknown, as are predisposing factors for recurrence. In fact, mixed results exist on the factors associated with recurrence risk. In a multicenter observational study of 624 adult patients with CVT, male sex and polycythemia/thrombocythemia were found to be the only independent predictors of venous thromboembolism after CVT. These results were not confirmed by other authors who observed an association between recurrence and a history of previous extracerebral venous thrombotic events, whereas in another study no variable was found to be significantly associated with recurrent VT. No study to date has estimated risk of VT recurrence with different CVT causes. We, therefore, aimed to prospectively evaluate the incidence of recurrent cerebral and extracerebral venous thrombotic events in a cohort of CVT patients and to detect clinical, biological, and radiological factors associated with VT recurrence.

Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension Plus Cerebral Venous Thrombosis: A Case Report Study

This is a case study of a 34-year-old woman who was admitted to hospital with a history of severe orthostatic headache. She was diagnosed as having spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) by undetectable cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure at lumbar puncture, and with evidence of diffuse dural enhancement of the brain detected by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, the contrast-enhance...

Background and Aim: Thrombosis of the cerebral veins and sinuses is a distinct cerebrovascular disorder that most often affects young adults and children. Failure in brain autonomic activity could be provoked because of damage to energy-dependent cellular membrane pumps resulting from cytotoxic edema and cerebral ischemia. Measurement of vasomotor reactivity (VMR) through Trans-cranial Dopp...

Venous thromboembolic events after cerebral vein thrombosis.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE After cerebral vein and dural sinus thrombosis (CVT), there is an increased risk of further venous thromboembolic events (VTEs). Time to a second cerebral or systemic venous thrombotic event and risk factors for recurrence have not been investigated in large prospective studies. METHODS We used the International Study on Cerebral Vein and Dural sinus Thrombosis, which i...

Sudden Bilateral Sensorineural Hearing Loss Secondary to Cerebral Venous Thrombosis

Introduction: Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) is an important otological emergency. Up to 90% of the cases are idiopathic. Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is an extremely rare identifiable cause as it only represents 0.5% of all strokes.   Case Report: In this paper, an unusual case of bilateral SSNHL secondary to bilateral CVT with rapid and complete recovery is reported. The patie...
